Services Billed After Date of Death WellCare Health Plans takes the prevention and detection of waste, fraud, and abuse very seriously. WellCare Health Plans has a management contract with its parent organization, Centene Corporation, who conducts routine post-processing claims audits on behalf of WellCare Health Plans. These audits are designed to ensure that billing codes and practices are correct and that WellCare Health Plans has paid healthcare providers appropriately. As part of these post-processing claims audits, WellCare Health Plans will deny or recoup reimbursement for services rendered after the date of the member’s death. Please ensure that your billing practices and business rules are aligned with CMS guidelines that disallow billing for services performed after the member’s date of death.
