On June 16, 2022, Wellcare received a notification from vendor Matrix Medical Group (“Matrix”), that their print vendor, One Touch Point, Inc. (“OTP”), experienced a cyber incident between April 27, 2022 and June 3, 2022. During that time, an unauthorized actor may have viewed or downloaded data files stored on OTP’s systems that included information about Wellcare members in New York.
The information involved in this incident included individuals’ names, healthcare ID numbers, and clinical information including diagnosis. Social Security Numbers were not included in this incident.
Upon learning of the cyber incident, OTP took the following actions:
- Immediately activated its incident response plan and analyzed the files involved.
- Coordinated with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on the investigation.
- Sent notice of the incident to Matrix and cooperated with the member notification process.
We have no indications of inappropriate use of members’ information. However, out of an abundance of caution, we recommend that potentially affected individuals take reasonable steps to ensure the security of their information.
We sent notification letters to the affected individuals. The letter provides a reference guide of recommendations from the Federal Trade Commission on how to protect against identity theft, including information about free credit reports, security freezes, and fraud alerts.
