Fluoride Varnish Training Tool
WellCare provides fluoride varnish training for PCPs who service the pediatric population 0-6 years of age. Below is a link to a Smiles for Life training course: Caries Risk Assessment, Fluoride Varnish and Counseling. This course focuses on early childhood caries and prevention. It includes information on the benefits, safety precautions, and dosing for fluoride as a comprehensive approach to a child's oral health.

WellCare will reimburse trained pediatrician offices when their pediatricians, nurse practitioners or physician assistants apply fluoride varnish to the members at well-child visits through the age of 6. Pediatricians will receive $33 for each fluoride varnish application up to every three months.
Providers who have not completed the training are not eligible for reimbursement. When billing for fluoride varnish application use CPT code 99188 with ICD-10 Z41.8 as the primary diagnosis code.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires all delegated and contractual Medicare Part C and Part D providers to complete fraud, waste and abuse (FWA) training. The training is available online for WellCare providers.
