Medicaid : New York Child Health Plus

If you don't have health insurance, WellCare can provide your children with free or low-cost healthcare through Child Health Plus, a New York State-sponsored program. Even if you are working and have a good income, your children may still be eligible for WellCare's Child Health Plus plan.

There is never a co-payment, and monthly premiums are low-cost or free based on your family income. Your child may be eligible for WellCare's Child Health Plus plan regardless of immigration status. Participation in this program will not affect future immigration status.

Maintain good oral health

Your oral health is very important to your total well-being. In fact, oral health and overall health are more connected than you may realize. If left untreated, even minor dental problems can turn into more serious dental conditions. They can also lead to general health problems.

To keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends these tips:

  1. Brush your teeth twice a day with an ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste.
  2. Replace your toothbrush every three or four months or sooner if the bristles are frayed. A worn toothbrush won’t do a good job of cleaning your teeth.
  3. Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner. Flossing helps remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gum line. Decay-causing bacteria still linger between teeth where toothbrush bristles can’t reach.
  4. Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks.
  5. Visit your dentist regularly for cleanings and oral exams.

Take care of your mouth to be and stay healthy!

Seasonal Flu

This year, members 6 months and older should get a flu shot. This shot protects against the flu.  It can also protect you from the H1N1 virus that caused so much illness two seasons ago.  One way to stay safe is to stay informed.  Visit FLU.GOV  to keep up-to-date.

WellCare offers flu shots to its members at no cost.  You can get a flu shot at your provider's office, a participating pharmacy or clinic. Some participating pharmacies are:

  • CVS Caremark
  • Walgreens
  • Rite Aid
  • Kroger
  • Longs Drugs
  • Medicine Shoppe
  • Target

Please call Customer Service if you need help finding a participating provider. The number can be found on the back of your ID card.  Additional information can be found at www.webmd.com (This is a public internet site that has information on health care, pharmacy information, and a symptom checklist).

STD and HIV Services

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene facilities offer free and confidential STD/HIV services for non-enrolled sexual and needle-sharing partners.  Services include education, HIV testing, medical evaluation, treatment and other preventive services.

For help call the New York State HIV Counseling Hotline.  Call 1-800-872-2777 or 1-800-541-AIDS.  If you know someone who injects drugs, they can get help to quit, and take steps to reduce their risk for disease and protect others.

Help To Prevent The Spread Of Disease

Clean needles, clean works and clean skin will help lower a drug user’s chance of getting HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and abscesses. These can be very serious and sometimes deadly.

  • Use new, sterile needles and syringes.
  • Never share needles, syringes, cookers, cotton, spoons, bottle caps and water. Very small amounts of blood left on works can spread HIV or hepatitis B or C. Sharing water to inject drugs has been shown to spread hepatitis C.
  • Clean skin with soapy water and alcohol swabs or rubbing alcohol before injecting.
